Set and forget
Radbot is fully automated and works straight out of the box. So, you don’t have to worry about fiddling around trying to connect individual devices by WiFi or trying to set complicated heating schedules on yet another App.
Each Radbot unit has its own microprocessor and smart heating algorithm pre-loaded, which automatically optimises your heating schedule to help you save. Just set the comfort temperature you want the room to be when its occupied and Radbot will take care of the rest. You may hear it working as it makes a gentle sound when adjusting the radiator to your desired room temperature.
How does Radbot determine occupancy?
Radbot recognises when someone is in a room by detecting changes in light and humidity. It then heats each room only when it’s occupied or is expected to be occupied within the next 1-2 hours.
Each unit has 3 environmental sensors that continually monitor temperature, light, and humidity within a room. Occupancy is determined by monitoring changes in light and humidity levels. For example, turning on lights or opening curtains will indicate a room is occupied. The presence of people in a room also emits a humidity signature which Radbot uses to help determine occupancy.
Intelligent pre-heat
Radbot does not just react to live occupancy, it also remembers your previous occupancy patterns which it uses to predict future occupancy periods and pre-heat the room to ensure it always nice and warm when you arrive. For example, it you typically use a room every day at 9am then Radbot will remember this and start pre-heating the room 1-2 hours before you arrive.
Setting the temperature
Radbot uses a simple rotating comfort dial to set the room temperature. The number you select on the comfort dial corresponds to the temperature you would like the room to be when it is occupied.
The temperature scale runs from 1 – 5 in increments of 0.5 which can be detected as a positive click as you rotate the dial. There is also a frost and boost setting at either end of the scale.
We suggest starting at a higher comfort level (such as 4) and then adjusting downward for greater energy savings.
• Frost - The frost protecting setting fixes the temperature at 6C. Use this setting if the room is not going to be used for a prolonged period. Radbot will keep the temperature at a minimum of 6C to ensure pipework does not freeze in cold weather.
• Flame - The flame setting boosts the max temperature by up to 10C for a period of 30 minutes. It will then revert to maintaining the max temperature of 24.5 C
How does Radbot save money and energy?
When Radbot detects a room is empty, it automatically reduces the temperature between 1°C and 6°C below the set-point on the comfort dial. Reducing the temperature in this way helps to save energy without reducing comfort. The degree of temperature setback during unoccupied periods is governed by several factors including the position of the comfort dial and the perceived occupancy conditions.
Comfort dial position
The position of the comfort dial influences the degree of temperature setback during unoccupied periods. The comfort scale is divided into 4 zones ranging from Extreme Eco to Extreme Comfort. These zones subtlety modify the behaviour of the heating algorithm altering the setback temperature ranges and pre-heat functionality.
• Higher comfort dial settings have a bias towards comfort vs energy savings. A dial setting of 4 and above will prioritise comfort, by limiting set back and ensuring full pre-heat functionality.
• Lower comfort dial settings have a bias towards energy saving vs comfort. Unoccupied set back temperatures will be more aggressive and pre-heat is reduced or may not be applied at all in some circumstances.
Radbot’s smart heating algorithm defines the temperature setting for the radiator valve at any given time and is based on a variety of conditions. It is a complex process and contains proprietary information.
More about “Boost”
Pressing the boost button opens the radiator valve fully for a duration of 30 minutes giving a boost of maximum heating. A short red flash which continues every few seconds indicates when Boost mode is active. After 30mins it automatically reverts to the setting selected on the comfort dial. You can also turn Boost off at any time by turning the dial down.
As well as providing an immediate boost, pressing the boost button also provides the strongest occupancy signal for prediction, with the aim of a single boost press ‘training’ the predictive heat response for the same hour for a couple of days, but not more than five days to avoid waste
